Cycling in Cozumel is an incredible experience you won’t want to miss if you are a cycling enthusiast and planning on spending some time in the Riviera Maya. Just a quick ferry ride and you are on the island of Cozumel which so many people like to visit for spectacular Scuba Diving. Snorkeling in Cozumel is also popular but my favorite reason to visit lately is to take a bike tour on the safe, stress free bike route around the island. There’s a good reason why the Ironman Triathlons and ITU World Championships have chosen Cozumel. Stunning Sea Views, sunny tropical weather and very little car traffic make for a world class cycling experience.
Most of the bike route is around the coast of the island and cars and other motorized vehicles are not allowed on the special bike road that is separated from the main road. The views alternate from fresh smelling green glades to spectacular sea views overlooking virgin beaches. The full loop around the island is around 40 miles so you could even turn around at a chosen point to shorten the ride and you would still fully enjoy the experience.
The great news is all the ferries to Cozumel are inexpensive and will transport your bikes for you at no charge. You don’t have to be a triathlete or expert cyclist to enjoy cycling in Cozumel, in fact I have several clients who have taken normal beach cruisers over and ridden all around the island. You can even rent bikes in Playa del Carmen and take them across for a fun day trip.
Not interested in biking but still want to explore the island? Jump on a motor scooter and explore all Cozumel has to offer like great dining and shopping. Keep in mind you won’t be allowed on the special bike road reserved only for bikes. So don’t miss out. Plan your day trip now to one of the greatest destinations in the Riviera Maya for cycling, scuba diving, snorkeling and much more. It’s one of the greatest things you can do.
