The cost of living in the in Playa Del Carmen is one of the top reasons why so many people from the United States, Canada, Europe and all over the world are moving here. You probably already know in the Riviera Maya you can enjoy warm, sunny weather, tropical breezes and beautiful beaches with blue turquoise water and white powder sand.

But you also can live better for way less than you might be used to in the United States and Canada. Many expats who live here full time find it very affordable to eat out at all the excellent restaurants more often because of the generally lower prices. In fact you can pay as little as $4-5 USD per person with a drink for a casual lunch or dinner meal in many restaurants just out of the tourist area.

Here’s a few of my favorite examples on average Cost Of Living In Playa Del Carmen:

Monthly Rent for 900 sq. ft. apt. in normal to expensive zone   $444. to $717. USD

Monthly Combined Utilities (heating, electricity, gas..)               $46. USD

Monthly Internet                                                                                   $19. USD

Monthly Phone Service (smartphone with data usage)                 $25. USD

Hourly Rate For Cleaning Help                                                          $2.07 USD

Short Visit To Private Doctor                                                              $22. USD

Italian Dinner for 2 including appetizer, wine and dessert          $36. USD

2 tickets to the movies at modern cinema                                       $4.93 USD

This last one is my favorite since I love going to the movies. The popcorn will still cost you around $5. USD

Not everything is inexpensive in Playa Del Carmen and some things cost the same as the United States and Canada but as you can see from these examples it is possible to live better on less while also enjoying all the exciting things to do in the Riviera Maya. When you combine this with the lower price on quality new construction real estate you can see why so many people are choosing the Riviera Maya and in particular Playa Del Carmen for retirement and vacation home investment.
