Best Beaches in the Riviera Maya

The best beaches in the Riviera Maya are all spectacular with their clean, white sand, gently caressed by the warm waters and gentle breezes of the Mexican Caribbean coast.

The best Riviera Maya beach may be Maroma Beach, which is renowned for being one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.  Maroma Beach is only ten minutes north of Playa del Carmen and has beautiful, modern hotels in a natural setting.

Paraiso Beach is another of the best beaches in the Riviera Maya, located just to the southwest of the Tulum Mayan ruins.  TripAdvisor included this white sand beach with its calm, turquoise water as one of the top five best beaches in the world in their 2011 and 2012 Traveler’s Choice Awards.  All the tour guides and locals recommend Paraiso Beach to visitors to the Tulum ruins as a “must visit” while there.

Akumal or “Land of the Turtles” is a small town about 60 miles south of Cancun, which boasts another of the best beaches in Riviera Maya.  This is one of the top spots in the world for sea turtles to lay their eggs.  The waters are crystal clear with beautiful, soft white sand, and there’s a reef just off the beach, making it a wonderful place for lying out in the sun, paddling in the calm waters or diving and snorkeling on the reef.

Xpu Há (pronounced “sh’pu ha”) is only about 20 miles from Playa del Carmen and about 60 miles from Cancún.   While having amenities such as
hotels, cabins, dive shops and restaurants for visitors, it is also known for being one of the most secluded and best beaches in the Riviera Maya.  With only a couple of year round inhabitants, calm waves, endless stretches of sand and water only two feet deep it is a very quiet, romantic and relaxing place to visit.  Xpu Há has one of the largest natural fresh water wells in the area.

Mamitas Beach is one of the best beaches in Riviera Maya and is located right on the Caribbean Sea in the city of Playa del Carmen.  It is famous for hosting music events with many famous Mexican artists.  It is also home to the yearly Riviera Maya Jazz Festival and other big name music events.  If you like nightlife, you will love Mamitas Beach!
